Many new homes include a Rinnai water heater. The manufacturer recommends annual maintenance on your Rinnai water heater, which is essential to ensure its efficiency and longevity. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you with the process:
Turn off the power and gas: Ensure the unit is completely powered down and the gas supply is turned off.
Close the water valves: Shut off the cold water inlet, hot water outlet, and the main water supply valve.
Attach hoses to the service ports: Connect hoses to the cold and hot water service ports. These hoses will be used to flush the system.
Prepare a descaling solution: Fill a bucket with 4 gallons of undiluted white vinegar or a commercial descaling solution.
Flush the system: Use a submersible pump to circulate the descaling solution through the water heater for about 45 minutes to an hour. This will help remove any mineral buildup.
Rinse the system: After descaling, flush the system with clean water to remove any remaining solution.
Clean the inlet filter: Remove and clean the cold water filter to ensure no debris is blocking the flow.
Reassemble the unit: Reattach the hoses, turn on the water valves, and restore the power and gas supply.
Check for leaks: Ensure there are no leaks and that the unit is functioning properly.
